Developed by Unity Technologies,
a San Francisco based , Danish-American
video game software development company, the Unity game engine platform
is used by developers worldwide
to create two-dimensional, three-dimensional,
virtual reality, and augmented reality video games
and other simulations.

To date, the platform has been used
to create approximately half of mobile games on the market and 60 percent of augmented reality and virtual reality content, including approximately 90 percent on
emerging augmented reality platforms,
such as Microsoft HoloLens,
and 90 percent of Samsung Gear VR content.

Aspiring creators can download the Unity game engine for free and quickly learn the platform
through the Unity's offered microgames and creativity learning modules.

As your game development skills become more refined, you will begin to expand
your game development capabilities through the use of assets, or things that will go into your game – characters, objects, sound effects, maps, environments, etc.

As a Unity affiliate, we provide organizational links to you to the Unity Store where you can acquire assets
to facilitate your game development. The assets available in the asset store library are both free and low cost.
For those new to game development, the free assets will be where you want to begin your search.

UPDATE: in light of the Covid-19 pandemic and community, Unity has made all premium learning content available
to all users FREE, until further notice.
